Common questions

My phone says SM-G955FD. Is that a different device to the SM-G955F?

No, it is the same Galaxy S8+ with a second SIM slot. The FD is the dual SIM version, and its hybrid tray takes either a second SIM or a microSD card. Screen, battery, charging port and back cover are identical across both codes, so the price is the same whichever one you have.

How do I tell an S8+ from an S9+? They look the same to me.

Look at the back. The S8+ has a single rear camera with the fingerprint reader beside it, while the S9+ has two lenses with the reader sitting underneath them. Both are 6.2 inch Quad HD+ with a 3500mAh battery, which is exactly why they get mixed up, and none of the parts cross over, so check Settings, About phone for SM-G955F before you book.

Is a 2017 phone still worth repairing?

For the battery at R1 130, the charging port at R1 430 or the back cover at R1 430, usually yes, because those keep a working phone working for a reasonable amount. The screen at R4 881 is the one to think hard about, since it costs more than those three repairs put together and Samsung stopped issuing security updates for the S8+ back in 2021. Samsung supplies this display as a full assembly bonded to the frame, which is what a curved Quad HD+ panel costs on this model.
