Which of the Fold5 screens is broken and what does each cost?
The 6.2 inch cover screen is R3 353 fitted, the least expensive cover panel across the Fold range. The 7.6 inch folding inner display is R16 389 fitted. One phone, two parts, roughly five times apart. If the damage shows with the phone closed, it is the R3 353 job. If it only shows when the Fold5 is open, along the crease or across one half, it is the R16 389 job.
How do I identify a Fold5 against a Fold6?
The Fold5 was the first Fold to close completely flat with no gap at the hinge, and its code is SM-F946 or SM-F946B, released August 2023. The Fold6 is SM-F956B from July 2024 with a slightly wider 6.3 inch cover screen against 6.2 inch on the Fold5. Part prices separate them as well: the Fold6 cover screen is R3 750 and its inner display R17 817, above the Fold5 at R3 353 and R16 389.
What does a Fold5 cost to keep running outside of screen damage?
The charging port is R1 899, the 4400mAh battery is R2 921 and the rear glass is R1 742, each fitted with a three month warranty on the part and the work. All three together come to under R6 600, against R16 389 for the folding display, so a three year old Fold5 with a sound inner panel is usually worth servicing rather than replacing.
