My Fold6 screen is broken. Is it the R3 750 part or the R17 817 part?
The 6.3 inch cover screen on the front of the closed phone is R3 750 fitted. The 7.6 inch folding inner display is R17 817 fitted, the highest single part price of any Samsung foldable we work on. The cover screen is about 21 per cent of the inner display, so the two are not comparable jobs. Cracked glass you can see with the Fold6 shut points to the cover screen. A dark line at the crease, a dead half, or touch that fails only when the phone is open points to the folding display.
Fold6 or Fold5? They look alike.
The Fold6 has squarer corners and a 6.3 inch cover screen against 6.2 inch on the Fold5, though that is a hard call by eye. The model number is not: SM-F956 or SM-F956B is the Fold6 from July 2024, SM-F946B is the Fold5. When pricing a repair the difference matters, since the Fold6 inner display at R17 817 sits R1 428 above the Fold5.
R17 817 is a lot for a two year old phone. What are my options?
There is no cheaper version of that part, because the folding panel and its frame come as one assembly. What is worth establishing first is whether the inner display is genuinely the fault. A Fold6 that still shows a clean image when open, but has a cracked outer face, a flat battery or a port that will not charge, needs the R3 750 cover screen, the R2 997 battery or the R1 698 charging port instead. Those three combined sit under half the inner display price.
