How do I know I have the LTE Tab A9 and not the Wi-Fi one?

The LTE model is the SM-X115 and it takes a SIM card, while the Wi-Fi Tab A9 is the SM-X110 with a tray that holds a microSD card only. Both are 8.7 inch tablets that look the same from the front. The screens are priced separately, R2 586 for the SM-X115 and R2 382 for the SM-X110, so we read the model number off the tablet before any part is ordered.

What usually brings a Tab A9 LTE in for repair?

Cracked glass, by a wide margin. The SIM slot is the reason people choose this version, so the SM-X115 lives in cars and bags rather than on a table at home, and an 8.7 inch tablet held in one hand lands on a corner when it slips. The Helio G99 and the 5100mAh battery are only a few years into their working life, so the panel is normally the only damaged part.

Is R2 586 worth spending on a tablet at this end of the range?

Yes, when the screen is the only fault. This is an October 2023 tablet, so nothing inside it is near the end, and the R2 586 covers the panel and the fitting. Where it stops adding up is a tablet that is also charging badly or losing its mobile signal, and that is worth settling on the bench before any part is ordered.
