The rear panel on the Fold3 is toughened glass bonded to the frame with adhesive. Tough as it is, a corner drop onto tile will crack it, and once cracked the damage keeps spreading with everyday handling.

Common questions
Can I keep using my Fold3 with a cracked back?
You can, but the damage rarely stays where it is. The panel flexes slightly every time you grip the phone, which works the cracks wider, and open cracks give dust and moisture a route inside. Replacing it keeps a contained problem from becoming a bigger one.
Does replacing the back cover affect the folding screen?
No. The rear panel sits on the opposite side of the chassis from the main folding display, and the repair does not involve opening the screen side of the phone at all. Your screens, hinge and data are left exactly as they are.
