Which Fold3 screen is broken, the outer one or the folding one?

The 6.2 inch cover screen on the front of the closed phone is R3 483 fitted. The 7.6 inch folding inner display is R14 189 fitted. The inner panel is roughly four times the cover screen, which is why the first question is which of the two is damaged. A Fold3 that cracked face down while shut needs the R3 483 part. One showing a black line at the hinge, a flickering half or ink spreading from the crease needs the R14 189 part. Both are certified original with the fitting included.

How do I confirm it is a Fold3 and not a Fold4?

Model number in Settings, About phone. SM-F926 or SM-F926B is the Fold3 5G from August 2021. SM-F936B is the Fold4 from August 2022. They share the 7.6 inch inner and 6.2 inch cover sizes, so the code is the reliable check. Prices track the difference: a Fold3 inner display is R14 189 against R16 570 on the Fold4, and the charging ports are R1 547 and R1 836.

The Fold3 is five years old. Is a R14 189 inner display worth it?

Be honest about the state of the rest of the phone first. On a 2021 Fold3, R14 189 for the folding panel can be more than the handset would fetch second hand, so look at what your storage variant is currently selling for before you decide. The other repairs sit in a different bracket entirely: the cover screen is R3 483, the 4400mAh battery is R2 339, the charging port is R1 547 and the rear glass is R1 786. A Fold3 with a healthy inner panel is worth keeping alive at those figures.
