Common questions
Could it just be lint in the port instead of a broken part?
It can be. Pocket lint compacts at the bottom of the connector and stops the plug seating fully, and that alone causes angle-charging and dropouts. We check the port before anything else. If a proper clean solves it, good. If the pins are worn or bent, the sub-board gets replaced.
My Fold3 still charges wirelessly. Is the port worth fixing?
Wireless charging keeps the phone alive, but it is slower, and a dead port also takes USB data transfer with it. The fault does not fix itself, and a failing connector tends to get worse. Replacing the sub-board brings back cable charging and data in one repair.
Is the charging port a separate part from the main board?
Yes. On the Fold3 the USB-C connector sits on its own sub-board, which is exactly what this repair replaces. The main board and your data are not touched. It is one of the more contained repairs a foldable can need, and the part fitted is original Samsung.
