How do I tell an S24+ from an S23+?
By the model number and by how sharp the screen is. The S24+ is SM-S926B with a 6.7 inch QHD+ display at 3120 x 1440, where the S23+ is SM-S916B with a 6.6 inch Full HD+ display at 2340 x 1080, and the battery went from 4700mAh to 4900mAh. The two share no parts, and the screen prices show it: R4 858 on the S24+ against R4 204 on the S23+.
Why is the S24+ screen so much less than the S24 Ultra's when both are QHD+?
The Ultra panel carries two things this one does not. It has the anti-reflective Gorilla Armor front, and it has the S Pen layer built into the same assembly, which is why that screen is R7 628 against R4 858 here. The S24+ has no pen, a conventional glass front, and at 6.7 inch it is the smaller panel of the two.
Two years in, is R4 858 a sensible amount to spend on a screen?
It is a lot of money, but this phone carries it better than the S23+ does. Android upgrades and security patches run to 2031 on the S24+, so a panel fitted now has more than four years of supported use ahead of it, against under two years on the older model. If the fault turns out to be the battery or the charging port instead, those are R1 900 and R1 388.
