How do I tell an S20 Ultra from an S20 or S20+?
The model number does it. Settings, then About phone: SM-G988B is the S20 Ultra, and the S20 and S20+ carry different codes. From the outside the Ultra is the 6.9 inch one with the tall camera block marked SPACE ZOOM, against 6.2 inches on the S20 and 6.7 on the S20+. A screen cut for a 6.2 inch S20 will not sit in a 6.9 inch Ultra, so the G988B code is what a quote is priced against.
There is a green line down the display. Can that be sorted without a new screen?
No. A vertical green or pink line is the panel itself, so it is the R6 321 screen replacement, and no reset or software update will clear it. The ultrasonic fingerprint reader sits under this display, so your fingerprints have to be registered again once the new panel is in.
Is an S20 Ultra still worth spending money on?
It depends which repair. This phone came out in March 2020, and at R6 321 the screen costs more than the back cover, battery and charging port put together, which is R4 306, so a cracked panel is the point where buying another handset becomes a fair question. The R1 470 battery is a different case: the 5000mAh cell is six years old and driving a 120Hz display, and it is the cheapest way to get more out of a phone that is otherwise still fine.
