Is a cracked back cover just cosmetic?
Mostly, until it is not. Cracked glass sheds slivers, and open cracks let dust and moisture reach the wireless charging coil and camera area. If the cracks sit near the camera they can also affect photo quality. Replacing the cover early keeps a cosmetic problem from becoming a hardware one.
