Samsung built the A55 5G around an aluminium frame, glass front and back, and a 6.6 inch 120Hz Super AMOLED. It is the most solid A series phone to that point, but solid is not indestructible, and drops and battery wear catch up with every handset.

Why does an A55 screen cost R4 277 when the newer A56 is R3 733?
Because the part costs more, not because the work is harder. The A55 has a Gorilla Glass Victus+ front in an aluminium frame, and Samsung's price for its service panel is the highest in the A5x range, above the A56 at R3 733 and well above the A54 at R2 854. Every price here is the part plus the fitting, so the screen tracks what Samsung charges rather than how old the phone is.
How do I tell an A55 from an A54 or an A56?
By the frame and the memory card slot. The A54 has a plastic frame while the A55 and A56 are aluminium, and the A55 is the last of the three to take a microSD card, which the A56 dropped. The A55 is also the heaviest at 213g against the A56's 198g, and its 6.6 inch screen sits between the A54's 6.4 and the A56's 6.7. SM-A556E is the version sold here.
Is an A55 worth fixing, or should the money go towards an A56?
For a battery at R1 278 or a charging port at R979 there is no argument; both are a fraction of a new phone. The screen at R4 277 is the one worth weighing up, particularly since the A56 sells new with 45W charging and six Android upgrades against the A55's four. If you use a memory card, though, the A55 is the newer of the two that still takes one, and that on its own is a fair reason to keep it going.
