The A52s 5G looks identical to the standard A52, but inside it is a different phone, with a faster chip and a 120Hz Super AMOLED panel. That matters for repairs, because parts for the two models are not interchangeable and fitting the wrong one causes problems.

What actually makes the A52s different from the A52 and the A52 5G?

The chip and the screen. The A52s runs the Snapdragon 778G, the quickest of the three, behind a 6.5 inch 120Hz panel; the A52 5G uses the Snapdragon 750G and the plain A52 the 720G with a 90Hz panel. The three phones are identical to look at, so go by the number: SM-A528B for the A52s, SM-A526B for the A52 5G, SM-A525F for the A52.

Is R2 876 worth spending on an A52s screen?

Do the sum first. That one screen is R2 876, about what the back cover, battery and charging port come to together at R2 921, and the A52s dates from September 2021 with Android 14 as the end of its software road. If the rest of the phone is sound, the repair stands up; if the battery and port are also on the way out, you are close to the cost of replacing the phone.

Should I repair the A52s or move up to an A53?

A working A52s is the quicker phone. It has the Snapdragon 778G where the A53 has the Exynos 1280, which was the weak point of that generation, and the A52s kept the 3.5mm headphone jack that the A53 dropped. What the A53 adds is a 5000mAh battery against the A52s's 4500mAh, so if battery life is the reason you are shopping, R1 088 for a new A52s battery is the cheaper route to the same place.
