Common questions
I cleaned the port myself with a pin and now it is worse. What now?
Stop there and bring it in. Pins and needles bend the sprung contacts inside the socket, which is likely what has happened. The good news is that the port sits on a replaceable sub-board, so the damage is contained and an original board puts it right.
Why replace a whole board for one small port?
The port is soldered to the sub-board in the factory under controlled conditions, and that is how Samsung supplies the spare. Replacing the board gives you factory grade connections rather than a hand soldered socket, and it renews the other contacts on the board at the same time.
Charging works but my PC will not see the phone anymore. Same fault?
Usually, yes. Charging uses certain pins in the USB-C connector and data uses others, so a partly worn port can charge but not transfer files. If different cables and computers make no difference, the port sub-board is the likely cause and replacing it restores both.
