Common questions
My phone reads SM-G986B and not SM-G985F. Is it the same phone?
Almost. SM-G985F is the 4G S20+ with 8GB of RAM and SM-G986B is the 5G version with 12GB, and the two share the same 6.7 inch body, the same 4500mAh battery and the same camera layout. Parts are ordered against the model code, so read yours off under Settings, About phone before you book.
What usually goes wrong with an S20+ at this age?
The battery, first of all. The 4500mAh cell in these phones is now five years old and it shows, and a replacement is R1 470. Cracked back glass is the next most common at R1 745. The third is the green line that appears down the AMOLED on S20 era phones, often just after an update, which sits in the panel's ribbon connection and needs the full screen at R5 407.
Is a phone from March 2020 still worth repairing?
It depends which repair. A battery at R1 470 or a back cover at R1 745 on a phone that otherwise works is money well spent. A screen at R5 407 is a harder call, because Samsung's last security patch for the S20 range landed in March 2025 and the series came off the update list in April 2025, so that amount goes into a phone that no longer gets updates. We would rather say so before the repair than after it.
