The Galaxy A21s earned a reputation as a workhorse. The 5000mAh battery and 6.5 inch screen made it a popular family phone in South Africa, and plenty of them are still going. When one breaks, it is usually worth fixing rather than retiring.

Common questions

Is the Galaxy A21s the same as the Galaxy A21?

No, they are two different phones. The A21s is SM-A217F, announced in May 2020 with a 5000mAh battery and a 48MP main camera; the plain A21 was a North American model on codes like SM-A215U, with a 4000mAh battery and different internals. A21s parts are ordered against SM-A217F, so check that your model number reads that before booking.

Will a new battery make my A21s faster?

No. A battery fixes a phone that will not hold charge or that switches off with charge still showing; it does nothing for speed, because the A21s runs an Exynos 850 built for battery life rather than pace. If the phone frustrates you while it is charged and working, R1 118 will not change that. If the only problem is power, it will.

Is an A21s worth repairing six years on?

The two cheaper repairs are, comfortably. A charging port at R718 or a battery at R1 118 keeps a phone going that still handles calls, WhatsApp and photos well enough. The screen is the awkward one at R1 935, and if the battery is due as well, R3 053 on a 2020 phone is money better kept for a replacement.
